TRAL: Government forces on Tuesday launched a massive cordon-and-search-operation in Hayena hamlet of Tral township in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

An official said that a joint team of Jammu & Kashmir police, army’s 42 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and 180 BN Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched the operation following specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

Residents said that the forces asked them out so that searches could be carried out.

The operation was on when this report was being filed. As per a source, two to three militants are believed to be trapped in the area.

The local youth also pelted the forces with stones to disrupt the operation. “We have tightened the cordon to ensure that militants don’t escape from the area,” a police official said.
