SRINAGAR: Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) on Saturday held a sit-in protest in Srinagar to demand the release of all political prisoners lodged in various jails of the state and outside.

Scores of JRL leaders, led by Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik staged the sit-in at Press Enclave.

The protesters were carrying banners with messages like ‘release all political prisoners’ and ‘bring back all Kashmiri prisoners who have been shifted outside’.

Yasin Malik, in his address to the protesters, demanded an immediate release of all the prisoners, including Masarat Aalam, Qasim Faktoo, Asiya Andrabi and others.

He also castigated the authorities for putting the leaders under detention.

“We want to convey to the government of India that the freedom fighters won’t be cowed down by abductions, bullets or the police hooliganism,” said Malik. “Had freedom fighters been frightened, India won’t have earned freedom.”
