Workshop on “Foldscope Assembly and Usage” held at KU

Srinagar: The Department of Zoology University of Kashmir in collaboration with the Division of Fish Genetics and Biotechnology (Faculty of Fisheries, SKUAST-K) Rangil organized One Day workshop on “Foldscope Assembly and Usage” for the research scholars.
The workshop focussed on microscopy popularization and its advantage in field diagnosis in hilly & inaccessible areas. 
According to the organisers of the workshop the advantage of this foldscope  microscope is its compatibility with smart phones and pictures can be saved in phones. 
The workshop was formally inaugurated by Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir Registrar KU who was the chief guest of the occasion and assured every help to the students and researchers. 
He also emphasized that these workshops should be a part of curriculum so that the scholars can take advantage of such workshops and apply knowledge in their respective fields of research.  
Prof. Fayaz Ahmad, Programme Director and Head of the Department assured that the Department of Zoology is active in organizing such programmes for the benefit of the researchers and students and a couple of programmes have been conducted and two more programmes are in pipeline during the coming months. 

Dr. Irfan Ahmad, Division of Fish Genetics and Biotechnology (Faculty of Fisheries, SKUAST-K) Rangil delivered a lecture and explained practically about the worlds cheapest microscope. Dr. Yahya Bakhtiyar was the Programme Co-coordinator.The workshop was highly appreciated by the researchers.
Foldscope is an ultra-affordable, paper microscope that can be assembled easily. Designed to be extremely portable, durable, and to give optical quality similar to conventional research microscopes (magnification of 140X and 2 micron resolution), Foldscope brings hands-on microscopy to new places.
