NEW DELHI: At the end of her visit to the Capital, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Friday that everyone must work together to save democracy in the country, besides stating that “Loktantra ko bachao, desh ko bachao” (save democracy to save the country) was going to be the new slogan of the TMC.

Coining of the catchy slogan in Hindi by TMC is considered significant since it reflects the party’s national ambition which has received a boost as a result of the crushing defeat inflicted by the Mamata-led TMC to BJP in the recently held Assembly elections in West Bengal.

Mamata said she would be visiting Delhi every two months. “To save democracy, all of us must join hands. I support the agitating farmers and have talked to them,” she said.

Though an expected meeting with NCP chief Sharad Pawar did not take place, Mamata said: “I have talked to Sharad Pawar.” After her meeting with the Prime Minister on Tuesday, she had said, “It was a courtesy meeting. I told the Prime Minister about the need for more vaccines and medicines in West Bengal.” On Thursday, she met Union Transport Minister Gadkari and discussed several road and infrastructure projects related to West Bengal.“I could not meet all the leaders because going to the Central Hall of the Parliament is not allowed. But, I did meet some. I think the outcome (of her Delhi visit) is good,” she said.
