KOLKATA: Two hours before his administering the oath to Mamata Banerjee as Chief Minister of West Bengal for the third consecutive term, Governor Jagdeep Dhankar has posted an explosive tweet, which can be interpreted as a threat to bring the state under president’s rule in view of the post-poll violence that has claimed more than a dozen lives during last three days.
“Concerned at unabated reports of unprecedented post poll retributive heart rendering violence inspite of flagging this @MamataOfficial @WBPolice @KolkataPolice. Such senseless violence shames democracy. Such collapse of law and order will neither be overlooked nor countenanced”, Dhankar said in a tweet at 8.32 this morning.
Mamata has been invited by the Governor to take oath of office of Chief Minister at 10.45 am at the Raj Bhavan.
BJP president JP Nadda, who flew to Kolkata on Tuesday, in the wake of violence “unleashed against BJP workers by alleged TMC supporters, is slated to hold a dharna in the city to protest against the atrocities.
Initially, it was announced that the programme would take place near the BJP state office at Muralidhar Sen Lane. However, the venue was shifted to the Hastings area this morning after the Kolkata Police allegedly pulled down the stage that was erected for the event at the original site.
Film actor Mithun Chakraborty, who has joined the BJP recently, has also appealed to stop the post-poll violence taking place in the state since the announcement of the assembly election results on May 2.
“Bengal is burning since post election. Please stop this violence, human lives are more important than politics,Please think about their families and stop this violence”, Chakraborty said in a tweet.
TMC says that the slain BJP workers are victims of factional fights within the BJP.
