Vice Chancellor SKUAST-J visits KVK adopted village Mandal

JAMMU: Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu Prof. J.P. Sharma today paid a visit to village Mandal of Block Purmandal – village adopted by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Samba.

He also visited Krishi Vigyan Kendra Samba following all the required COVID-19 guidelines.

On this occasion Prof. J.P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu held a meeting with progressive farmers of village Mandal.

Interaction with the farmers, he laid emphasis on promotion of Integrated farming System Model, Value addition of fruits and vegetables and promotion of protected cultivation among the farming community, which is also the primary motto of the   Prime Minister of India.

The discussion was mainly focused on increasing the farmers income manifold through establishing marketing linkages and branding of agriculture and veterinary products. He emphasised on following cluster development approach for organic farming and advised the farmers to demarcate different clusters for organic farming and take technical support from KVK Samba for its development. Participatory seed production and processing was one of the main agenda of his discussion during interaction with the farmers. During his visit he also planted a sapling of ornamental plant and given a message on green and clean samba.

During the interaction with the Vice Chancellor, several progressive farmers shared their experiences as well as projected some problems being faced by them during the prevailing situation of Covid 19.

Later, the V-C visited Krishi Vigyan Kendra Samba where he interacted with the Scientists of KVK and Farmers of Bhartiya Kissan Union Sangh. He directed the Scientists to work for the welfare of Farmer community. The Prantsangathan Sangh Mantri of Bhartiya Kissan Union Sangh, Balbirji and Farmers’ gram vikas prant sanjojak, Om ji also interacted with the Vice Chancellor and requested for laying thrust on value edition, milky mushroom cultivation, strawberry cultivation as well as dragon fruit in the district. The Vice Chancellor in his address assured the farming community of all possible technical support from KVK Samba.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor also launched a plantation drive at village Dhiani. The plantation drive has been launched in coordination with Forest Division, Samba with an aim to usher in a more equitable and ecologically balanced earth.

Earlier, Dr Vinod Gupta, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK Samba welcomed the Vice Chancellor.  In his address he presented a detailed report of work done by KVK for the benefit of the farming community and assured Vice Chancellor that the team of KVK Samba is always present for the welfare of the farming community.

The V-C also inspected the seed production farm as well as inbuilt infrastructure development going on at the KVK.

Dr. Sanjay Khajuria, Dr. Neerja Sharma, Dr. A.K. Sinha, Dr. Saurav Gupta, Dr. Suraj Amrutkar, Dr. AmitMahajan, Dr. ShaliniKhajuria along with other staff members were also present during the meeting.
