KU VC Prof Talat inaugurates webinar lecture series

SRINAGAR: Vice Chancellor University of Kashmir (KU) Prof Talat Ahmad inaugurated a Webinar Lecture series organised by the Department of Chemistry, KU aimed at training research students and faculty for writing good research proposals. 

In his inaugural address Prof Talat said that despite unfavorable circumstances due to ongoing Covid-19 crises, the University has continued normal functioning through online platforms and has done exceptionally well in terms of getting new research grants and publication of research results in the highest ranking journals.

The Vice Chancellor informed the audience that the university has been awarded the Centre of Excellence in Earth Science Department in the area of glaciology and Department of Biodiversity.

He said most of the science departments, including the Department of Chemistry, are doing exceptionally well in terms of research and publications.

While addressing research scholars and the Principle Investigators of various projects, Prof Talat laid emphasis on knowing the art of writing good research proposals for grants and appreciated the efforts directed at organizing such Webinar lectures aimed at training research students and faculty for writing good research proposals.

The keynote speaker, Prof Sandeep Verma,Secretary, SERB-DST , New Delhi and Professor, Department of Chemistry, IIT Kanpur, gave a detailed presentation on the theme , : Research Projects: Conceptualization to Implementation”.

The lecture was followed by an exciting interactive session with the participants, which included faculty members from various university departments and colleges, Principle Investigators of various projects and research scholars of various science departments.

During his lecturer Professor Sandeep Verma, explained the key requirement of writing a successful research project for grants, from conceiving a research idea to its formulation and presentation and successful implementation, which could be convincing for funding bodies like SERB-DST and the peer group experts in the Project Selection Committees.

In his opening remarks, Prof Altaf Hussain Pandith, Coordinator Webinar Series highlighted the challenges to educational institutions posed by the COVID -19 crises and the importance of online teaching –learning platforms and online educational technologies to overcome those challenges.

While highlighting the objectives of the Webinar Lecture Series, he talked about the futuristic view of changing educational scenarios, about the idea of virtual campuses and the possible role of online educational technologies and platforms in bridging the knowledge gaps as essential embedded components of future educational institutions and spaces.

Head, Department of Chemistry, Prof Syed Wajahat Amin Shah, while welcoming the dignitaries and participants, talked in length about the consequences and challenges of COVID-19 situation on human health and the much needed enhancements in research breakthroughs to find the antidotes and vaccines to overcome this crisis. He also presented a detailed account of the achievements of the Department in teaching –learning activities and about the progress in research activities the department has made over the years.
