Two NC workers shot dead, another injured in Kashmir capital Srinagar

SRINAGAR: Two National Conference (NC) workers were killed and another injured after unknown gunmen opened fire on them in Habba Kadal area of Downtown Srinagar.

SSP Srinagar Imtiyaz Ismail confirmed the deaths of two NC workers in the firing incident.

The slain were identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Wani and Nazir Ahmad while the injured as Shakeel Ahmed Zangoo.

Reports said that unknown gunmen fired at three NC workers in Karfalli Mohalla today morning, leaving them injured.

They said that the injured were rushed to SMHS hospital where two of them succumbed.

An official said the whole area has been cordoned off to nab the attackers.

National Conference has condemned the killings.

“I cannot condemn strongly enough the murderous terrorist attack against three of my party workers. Nazir Ahmed Bhat (working in the office of MLA Shamima Firdous) & Mushtaq Ahmed Wani have been killed. Allah Jannat naseeb karey,” Omar wrote on Twitter.

He said another NC worker Shakeel Ahmad Zangoo has been injured and is in hospital.

“I pray for his complete & speedy recovery. May the families of Nazir, Mushtaq & Shakeel find strength in this most difficult time,” Omar said.

On its official Twitter handle, NC said the party President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah expressed profound grief over the killing of two party workers Nazir Ahmad Bhat and Mushtaq Ahmad Wani.

Meanwhile, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti also condemned the NC workers’ killing.

“Pained to hear about the killing of two NC workers. My heart goes out to their families & children. Cannot possibly imagine what they must be going through,” Mehbooba wrote on Twitter.
