Top TRF commanders Saqib and Abass sheikh killed in Srinagar: IGP

Srinagar: Two top commanders of Lashkar-e-Taiba/TRF were killed in a gunfight in Kashmir capital Srinagar, police said.An official told that two militants identified as Abass Sheikh and Saqib Manzoor Dar son of Muhammad Shafi from Old Barzulla area of Srinagar, who was active since August 05 2020 and Top commanders of militant outfit TRF were killed on specific inputs by Jammu and Kashmir Police.

He said Abass Sheikh, a resident of Kulgam, was active since many years and was involved in dozens of militancy related incidents.A resident of Rampur village, the 45-year-old was one of the oldest militants in Kashmir. Sheikh has recycled into militancy two times and was on the radar of the security agencies since 2015, when he re-joined the militants after release from jail.

An old hand of Hizbul Mujahideen, Sheikh switched over to The Resistance Front (TRF), which police say is a shadow group of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT).

In the past six years, he has escaped several times after breaking the security cordon in Kashmir.

Meanwhile, IGP Kashmir terms it a big success.
