Thousands take part in last rites of Kupwara teacher shot dead in Kashmir capital Srinagar

Kupwara: Thousands of people on Tuesday participated in the last rites of Lolab man who was shot dead by unknown gunmen at Khanyar in Srinagar last night.

The deceased, identified as Abdul Ahad Ganaie, was a resident of Lalpora Lolab in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Ahad was fired upon while he was driving his car and had died on spot. His body was later taken to police control room Srinagar for legal and medical formalities.

Ahad has pursued Ph.D. from Aligarh Muslim University and was presently working as a teacher at a private institution in Srinagar.

The father of Abdul Ahad has sold more than half of his property to pay for his education. “All went in vain,” rued a neighbor of the deceased.

Ahad was laid to rest at his native graveyard at Lalpora Lolab. Thousands of people took part in his last rites.

An eyewitness said thousands of people from Lalpora and its adjoining areas assembled at the native village of the deceased.
