Thousands attend last rites of slain Hurriyat activist in north Kashmir’s Sopore

Sopore: Thousands of people on Saturday participated in the funeral prayers of slain Hurriyat activist Hakeem-ur Rehman Sultani at Bomai village in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Unknown gunmen shot Sultani dead while he was traveling in a car in Bomai village earlier today.

An eyewitness said thousands of people participated in his funeral prayers. He said people from nearby and far-off villages of Zainageer belt took part in his last rites.

He said pro-freedom slogans were raised as his body was lowered into the grave at the local graveyard.

Sultani who is survived by his wife and four daughters was released a couple of weeks ago after serving two years in a jail in Kupwara on charges of stone-pelting.
