Govt begins hunt for new BOSE head

5-member search committee to be headed by FC, Finance; To submit panel within 15 days

JAMMU: The Jammu & Kashmir government has begun hunt for the new head of the prestigious Board of School Education (BOSE).

As per wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the General Administration Department (GAD) today constituted a five-member committee headed by Financial Commissioner, Finance Arun Kumar Mehta for shortlisting probables for the coveted position of chairman of the BOSE.

The committee also comprises Principal Secretary School Education Department Asgar Hassan Samoon , Secretary Higher Education Department Talat Parvez Rohella, Vice-Chancellor Central University Jammu Prof. Yogesh Tyagi and Vice-Chancellor Kashmir University Dr Talat Ahmed. The committee has been mandated to submit a panel to the government which will take a final call on the appointment. “The committee shall be serviced by the School Education department and shall submit the panel within 15 days,” reads an order issued by GAD.

On March 31, the government extended term of incumbent chairman Veena Pandita upto April 30 due to delay in choosing her successor. Pandita, who was appointed as head of BOSE on April 3, 2018, was set to complete her two-year term on April 2. Before being appointed as full-fledged head of BOSE, Veena also served as the body’s in-charge head after Zahoor Ahmad Chatt was repatriated to Higher Education Department by PDP-BJP government.
