Smart City: 16 shrines, temples being renovated in Sgr in next year

SRINAGAR: Under the much-hyped smart city project, the government is mulling to renovate at least 16 religious places across Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, this financial year.

Sources within the tourism department told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the plans for the renovation of the religious places including temples, shrines, Gurudwara and churches within Srinagar is being formulated in April this year.

Senior official from Tourism department, Syed Zahoor Ahmed said, “At present, the exact details are not available. But, it has been decided that the temples, shrines and churches across Srinagar will be renovated in the next financial year.”

He added they are planning a new renovation process from next month (April), adding that at least 16 shrines, temples, Gurduwaras and churches will be renovated in next financial year.

Some of the shrines, which are being renovated in next financial year include Dargah Hazratbal shrine, Makhdoom Sahib shrine, Imam Bada Pandrethan, Syed Haider sistaini Hyderpora, Ganesh Mandir Barbar Shah Srinagar, Razak Sahib Narwara, Jinab Sahib Soura, Ded Mouj Jinab Sahib Soura Anchar, Mirza Shah Sahib Hasanbad, Khankha Maula, Shankar Aschariya Temple, Naqsband Sahib Nowhatta, Chatti Padshahi Rainawari, Syed Mian Shah Nowpora and Saint Luke Church Dalgate.

According to officials in the tourism department, some religious places have been completely renovated while the work over some more is going on.
