NEW DELHI: Close on the heels of party’s poll debacles in the recent state elections in Kerala, Assam, Puducherry and West Bengal, Congress president Sonia Gandhi has called all MPs for a virtual meeting, which is currently underway.

Congress sources said the agenda was Covid 19 mismanagement by the government and the way forward.

MPs of Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha will attend the virtual meeting in which former prime minister Manmohan Singh will also join.

Congress ex-chief and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi will also be there.

The meeting assumes significance as it comes days after Congress media chief Randeep Surjewala said an honest introspection will be held to assess what went wrong in the elections and course correction will be done.

Surjewala also said the Congress intends to conclude its organisational election process by June 30.

Leadership changes would be expected although Rahul Gandhi does not appear to be a good candidate for party presidency right now having led the Congress to serial electoral defeats in the past too.

The Congress drew a blank in the recent West Bengal polls in its worst performance ever in the state, lost power to NDA in Puducherry, failed to wrest Kerala and Assam back from incumbent LDF and BJP respectively and ended a marginal player in Tamil Nadu as part of the winning DMK led alliance.
