SRINAGAR: The general session called by the authorities where Srinagar Municipal Corporation’s (SMC) incumbent Deputy Mayor, Parvez Ahmad Qadri was scheduled to prove his majority, couldn’t take up on Wednesday as majority of the councilors remained absent.

According to an official statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), SMC officials said that On July 15, 2020, at least 38 councilors had moved a No Confidence Motion (NCM) against Deputy Mayor and acting Mayor Parvez Ahmed Qadri.

“Accordingly, all councilors were informed to attend a session to exercise their voting rights which was scheduled to be held today. However, only 26 members were present today where as it was mandatory that more than half of the councilors were supposed to be present i.e. 36 members out of 70 councilors at present to take up the business of general session,” the statement said.

It added that with the presence of 26 members only, the session could not be taken up.
