SRINAGAR: In a major development, Congress has decided to abstain from voting during the no-confidence motion against Srinagar Municipal Corporation mayor Junaid Azam Mattu.

In a statement, the Congress said that it has decided to refrain from voting during the no-confidence motion against Mayor.

The move of Congress is seen as an attempt to defeat the no-confidence motion, which has backing of BJP.

Sources told news agency–Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that Congress decided to abstain after mayor and Peoples Conference spokesman Junaid Azim Mattu met PCC Chief Ghulam Ahmad Mir at his residence here.

“Soon after Mattu left Mir’s residence, Sheikh Muhammad Imran also reached there and sought party’s support for no-confidence motion . But the party decided to abstain,” they said.

According to sources, BJP is struggling to get numbers and may also decide to abstain from voting.
