Singapore reports almost 1,000 new Covid-19 cases in past 24 hours

SINGAPORE: Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) preliminarily confirmed an additional 942 cases of Covid-19 infection today, bringing the tally for the republic to 5,992.

The ministry said the “vast majority” of the cases are work permit holders residing in foreign worker dormitories.

“Local cases have continued to decline, with 14 Singaporeans/ Permanent Residents among the cases today,” it said in a statement here.

“We are still working through the details of the cases, and further updates will be shared via the MOH press release that will be issued tonight,” it added.

As of Friday, Singapore’s Covid-19 cases comprise 3,267 dorm residents; 258 work permit holders not residing in dorms; 956 community cases; and 569 imported infections.

Singapore has gazetted 12 out of 20 affected dorms as isolation areas with most of the infected dorm residents being citizens of Bangladesh, India, China and Myanmar.
