Srinagar: In view of the approaching holy month of Ramadan, JKPM leader and activist Shehla Rashid demanded the release of all the political prisoners who are lodged in prisons within and outside the state.

“Political prisoners and youth charged under PSA cases should be released ahead of the month of Ramadan. JKPM seeks immediate reunification of these prisoners with their respective families. It’ll be a step, a small step to be sure, but a necessary one to communicate the concern for the religious sentiments of Kashmiris,” Shehla said.

“The holy month is based on the principles of mercy and compassion. Holding these political prisoners in the most horrible of circumstances during such a month is indicative of blatant disregard for these humanistic principles. The case of Yasin Malik is especially crucial because he’s being held in Tihar jail, while suffering from the most critical health condition. The govt must recognise this thing and release him at the earliest, alongside all others languishing in various prisons”, added the JKPM leader.

Shehla also prayed for the holy month to pass without the occurrence of any untoward incident in the state.
