SRINAGAR: While most of the roads in Kashmir are already reeling under worst conditions, at least 700 kilometres of road that were supposed to be macadamised and renovated last year couldn’t be completed.
Top officials of the Road and Building (R&B) told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that over 700 kilometres of road allotted for the macadamization and renovation couldn’t be completed last year because of the lockdown.
Chief Engineer of RnB, Showkat Jeelani told KNO, “In the lockdown, more than 700-800 kilometres of road allotted for the macadamization couldn’t be renovated, macadamised and maintained.”
He however also said that the budget of the previous financial year has exhausted except for the on-going works falling under different construction schemes.
Jeelani also said that the season of road macadamization is yet to start and as far as the works for the upcoming season is concerned the department will ascertain the work estimation in a weeks’ time.
“The current season is likely to start from April-end and the works will be resumed according to the new budget,” he said.
“Once the rainy season is over and the temperature starts increasing we will resume the process of macadamization,” Jeelani said.
