SRINAGAR: Despite having sufficient funds, the R&B department has failed to kick start the new construction of roads and other vital projects in Kashmir with the result developmental work has taken a back seat with each passing day, especially in the north Kashmir districts.

As of now there is no road in Jammu and Kashmir that has been found in good conditions, while as the construction of various government buildings is still pending as they were already sanctioned by their former legislators in their respective constituencies, said sources.

“If we talk of the summer capital of J&K, the roads in Srinagar are in shambles, only daily basis there remains a chance of some mishaps, that may are occurring and the authorities concerned are least bothered about it,” Sources said.

One of the Darbar Move employee of Baramulla district informed Street Times over the phone that, he was recently travelling on Srinagar-Baramulla highway during late hours after which he faced many problems in reaching to his hometown.

“The potholes are visible, there is an encroachment of roads, as it seems that the development has never took place on these roads, whereas he claims that the department of R&B has sufficient funds to utilize but due to unwillingness they have failed to take work on the vital projects,” said an employee of Civil Secretariat.

He said that, few weeks back the authorities had filled several potholes in Baramulla town but major portions on the highway are in tatters.

One point road stretch at Kanispora has become a nuisance for the transporters army convoy also stops there which could become a big disaster, the authorities concerned have failed to find out the solution from past two months, DM Employee observed.

However locals of Singhpora said, the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad roads is in shambles, there are big potholes on maximum portion of the road, while as 7 meters roads at Kanispora has took everyone surprised as the department concerned has failed to find out the way to get it solved.

A local resident of Kanispora said that, my hopes to become a father was snatched, after my wife met with a horrific accident as recently she had conceived a baby, but one and half months baby got abort due to heavy potholes on Kanispora road near Jee Sahib Petrol Pump.

“Due to heavy jerks in a van and traffic jam, my wife was just returning home from Baramulla towards Kanispora, after which we came to know that the baby had got aborted by heavy jerks, and it is all due to the callous and selfish attitude of the concerned authorities, said local resident.

People believe that, the concerned department of R&B is not interested in repairing of the road, at least they should have filled these potholes, otherwise during night hours I big mishap can occur, and for all this mess, the department concerned will be held responsible.
