Pulwama gunfight over; three militants, civilian killed

PULWAMA: Three militants were killed in an ongoing gunfight with the government forces in Thumna village of Chatpora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday, police said. A civilian was killed in clashes near the gunfight site.

Director General of Police (DGP) SP Vaid said all three militants trapped in Pulwama gunfight have been killed. “All three militants killed, Good job boys,” he said on Twitter.

Earlier, a top police official confirmed the death of two militants in the ongoing firefight raging since today afternoon.

He said two bodies are lying at the site of the gunfight while a third militant is still firing from the debris of the house which was blasted by the forces.

The identity of the slain militants was yet to be ascertained, said the official.

A civilian, identified as Faizan Ahmad Khan, son of Dr. Abdul Gani Khan, resident of Khrew Pampore suffered a bullet injury in his abdomen after forces used live ammunition and pellets to disperse protesters who had gathered near the site of the gunfight.

He was shifted to district hospital Pulwama where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Faizan, according to the official, was putting up presently at Government Quarters in Pulwama town.

Eight other civilians were also injured during the clashes, and one of them who also sustained a gunshot injury has been brought to the bone and joint hospital in Srinagar for treatment.
