Public meetings held at 28 panchayat halqas, massive public participation witnessed

ANANTNAG: Public interactions commenced in as many as 28 panchayats on the second day of the vigilance awareness fortnight witnessing massive participation by the public.

During the sessions, the departmental representatives gave a brief overview of the National Food Security Act to the public. They explained the provisions and eligibility of the act and the quota of ration for various categories.

There was thorough deliberation among the PRIs, representatives from CAPD, RDD and members of the civil society. The list of beneficiaries was read aloud and various beneficiaries were discussed case by case.

Members of the civil community appreciated the efforts of the District Administration and expressed hope that the exercise will help in ensuring the deserving receive due benefits.

The members were also informed that they can record any observations online also through a link circulated via whatsapp and on the official twitter handle and facebook groups.

The observations will now be forwarded to the block level vigilance committees which will in turn forward their recommendations to the District level committee for appropriate action.

The 28 panchayat halqas covered include Adigam, A.K Pora, Guri A, Aho Paison, Amadwagad, Badasgam, Akura among others.

Another meeting was also held at Town Hall Anantnag which was presided over by Hilal Shah, President MC Anantnag. AD Food and various other departmental representatives were present in the meeting.

Hilal Shah appreciated the initiative of the administration and directed concerned ward members to conduct ward level meetings for social audit and sanitization of beneficiary list. He said dedicated efforts must be made to ensure this novel initiative has a meaningful impact on the public.
