PSAJK celebrates World Teachers Day Teaching is profession of Prophets: Prof Qazi

Srinagar: As part of their yearly tradition Private Schools Association of Jammu and Kashmir (PSAJK) today celebrated World Teachers Day at SRM Welkin School Sopore.

This year Chairman Scientific Review Committee Michigan State University USA, Prof Qazi Azher was the Chief Guest. In his thought provoking speech Prof Qazi highlighted the need to understand changing dynamics of Education and said that Arts too is a Science stream and needs to be approached scientifically. Prof Qazi spoke the need of quality education for the wellbeing of society.

Prof Qazi said that teaching is a profession of Prophets, which shoulders heavy responsibility on those who choose teaching as their career. Regarding current challenges in educations sector, he said that about 60% students in the world do not have access to schools and secondly there is marked deficiency of teachers everywhere especially in developing world.

He said that a teacher should always strive to upgrade his knowledge and teaching methods. “A good teacher has blessing of God because teachers are nation builders,” he said adding that there is great shortage of well trained teachers in Kashmir too. “Teachers need modern research-based effective instructional techniques and above all teachers should use evidence-based pedagogy,” he said.

Prof Qazi said that students love to learn by doing, therefore hands-on inquiry-based methodology should be adopted by teachers.

On this occasion he was presented the “Teacher of Teachers Award” by PSAJK.

Prof Qazi heads many prominent research institutions in USA and is working with SCERTs of many states in India. He is involved in teaching Brain-Based Education, Science of Learning and Teaching, Hands-On Enquiry-Based Methodology, research-based teaching techniques, and Science of Scientific Investigation.
