SRINAGAR: Kashmir University students on Wednesday staged a protest against the ban on Jama’at-e-Islami and alleged harassment of their mates by the varsity administration.

Scores of students boycotted their classes and staged a demonstration inside the varsity.

The protesting students were demanding release of all Jama’at members who have been arrested during past few weeks across the state.

They also accused the varsity administration of selective “harassment” of the students without any “sound reasons.”

“The varsity authorities have prepared a list of more than two dozen students who are harassed on one pretext or the other,” said a protesting student.

The students were carrying banners with messages like “ban on Jama’at is a ban on Islam.”

The protest was going on when this report was filed.
