Prof. Mohd Mumtaz Ali from Malaysia interacted with students and scholars at IUST

AWANTIPORA: The Department of Islamic Studies, IUST organized a special lecture by Professor Mohd. Mumtaz Ali was organized on the topic Humanity and the Universality of Islam: Contemporary Ethical Challenges as a part of their Online Lecture Series initiated in November last year. The lecture was presided by Professor Manzoor Ahmad Bhat (Former Head SHIIS, University of Kashmir).

Prof. Ali is a renowned Islamic scholar from International Islamic University Malaysia. The
expert speaker grappled with the idea of the Universality of Islam and discussed its relevance
for humanity in the contemporary era of ethical dilemmas. “All the challenges of the human
world can be resolved with the application of the right knowledge. One of the main challenges that humanity is facing today is because knowledge and perception for human sciences have been dissociated from the authentic, truthful and universal knowledge embedded in the revelation”, he said.

Introducing the session and the speaker, Dr. Afroz Ahamd Bisati (Head, Department of Islamic Studies, IUST) said, “The department exposes the students and scholars to the advanced knowledge on Islamic Studies and Comparative religions, and such interactive sessions with the experts are very helpful”. The session was moderated by Dr. Gowhar Quadir Wani and Dr. Ghulam Nabi presented the Vote of thanks.

Earlier the department had invited Prof. Adeeb Khalid (Professor, Asian Studies & History,
USA), Prof. Syed Farid Al-Atas (Professor of Sociology, National University of Singapore),
Iram bint Safia (Delaware, USA), and Prof. Jasser Auda (President, Maqasid Institute London).
