Police refute news reports, claim Anantnag youth died in grenade explosion

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday refuted news reports over the death of a youth in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

“As reported by certain sections of media that one person died in clashes with security forces at Anantnag is refuted,” said a spokesman.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that a Hand Grenade exploded resulting in the death of one Sheraz Ahmad S/O Gh Mohiuddin R/O Brakpora due to splinter injuries and his right hand got fully damaged. Further details are being ascertained.”

Earlier, reports said that Sheraz died after being hit by pellets during clashes with government forces.

Medical superintendent district hospital Anantnag Dr Majid Mehrab said that the youth had suffered pellet injuries in his throat and head.
