Police arrests 05 drug peddlers in Pulwama, Budgam

Budgam: Continuing its efforts to curb the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested 05 drug peddlers in Pulwama & Budgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In Pulwama, a Police Party from Police Station Kakapora during routine checkpoint established at Kandizal crossing intercepted a vehicle (Santro) bearing registration No. JK01N-4285 with three persons on board. During search, 5.5Kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered from the said vehicle and all the three drug peddlers were arrested on the spot. They have been identified as John Mohd Wani son of Ab Gani Wani resident of Loolipora Nehama Kakapora, Tahir Ahmad Malik son of Gh Mohd Malik and Tajamul Hussain son of Mohd Ibrahim, both residents of Balhama Srinagar. 

Similarly, acting on specific information received by Police Station Kakapora that one Mudasir Ahmad Bhat son of Mohd Shafi Bhat resident of Kadlabal Kakapora has indulged in drug peddling and has hoarded a large quantity of psychotropic substance in his residential house. Accordingly, police raided the said location and during search, 15 bottles of Codeine were recovered. The accused person was also arrested on the spot.

Meanwhile in Budgam, a police party of Police Post Hardipanzo Beerwah during routine checkpoint established near Qamiru crossing intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully. During search, about 1.2Kgs of Charas like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Mohammad Maqbool Malik @ Sahil son of Ghulam Nabi Malik resident of Waragam Budgam.

All the arrested drug peddlers have been shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody. Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigation has been initiated.
