PM Modi to address nation at 5 pm

NEW DELHI: Prime minister Narendra Modi will address the nation at 5 PM on Monday and is expected to caution people in the face of unlocks with Delhi allowing gradual opening up of activities from Monday.

Daily new cases are at a major low of one lakh, the first time since April 5, in around 61 days, with the daily positivity rate at 6.34 per cent.

The PM’s address is expected to speak of how India was punished by a ferocious second wave in the absence of societal precautions after the first peak declined in February mid only to peak massively on May 7 when India saw 4.14 lakh cases as against less than 10,000 cases in mid February.

Sources said the PM may also make some policy announcement on vaccines amid acute shortages of doses and several vaccine centres shutting down. An ease of Covid vaccine situation and foreign jab imports could be part of his address.

The PM is likely to warn the citizens against dropping their guard of presuming that the disease is over.

The third wave warning is also beginning to be made with experts clearly saying that the size of the peak of the third wave would depend on people’s behaviours and precautions they take.

India’s sctive caseload further declined to 14,01,609 today — falling by 76,190 in last 24 hours.

India now has 2,71,59,180 total Recoveries across the country so far and 1,74,399 patients recovered during last 24 hours as against one lakh who were infected.
