SRINAGAR: The casual labourers working with the Public Health Engineering (PHE) on Thursday staged a protest in Srinagar to demand pending wages and other benefits.
Hundreds of labourers along with their children assembled at Partap Park in Srinagar and held a demonstration.
The protesting employees are demanding release of their wages pending from past 18 months and amendment in the SRO entitling them to service benefits.
“Our kids are being sent back from school because we are unable to pay their fee. It has been the fourth day of our protest and the administration is not paying any heed,” said Abdul Qayoom, Budgam district president of Casual labourers.
The protesting employees said that they have already locked down many PHE offices and if their demands are not met, they will intensify their protests.
