Six civilians injured in Pattan grenade explosion

BARAMULLA: Non-local resident from Uttar Pradesh, a woman were among six civilians were injured in a grenade explosion in the main market of Singhpora area of Pattan in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday.

Police officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that a grenade exploded in the main market of Singhpora, resulting in injuries to six civilians including a non-local resident from Uttar Pradesh and a woman from Handwara.

The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment from where they were referred to SMHS hospital Srinagar for advanced treatment.

Meanwhile, hospital authorities in Pattan identified the injured civilians as Ghulam Mohammad Parray son of Mohammad Ramzan Parray, Gulzar Ahmad Khan son Ghulam Mohiuddin, Manzoor Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, Zubair Ahmad Dar son of Ashiq Dar—all residents of Singhpora, Tabasum daughter of Abdul Rehman Bhat, a resident of Doodipora Handwara and Farman Ali of Uttar Pradesh.

Senior superintendent of police Baramulla Ab Qayoom Wani told KNO that it seemed that the attack was carried out to target a SSB vehicle, that was plying at the market. “But the grenade missed the intended target and exploded at a place where there was public movement, causing injuries to civilians,” he said, adding that the explosion will not affect the ongoing election process in any manner and poll will be held smoothly.
