ISLAMABAD: Pakistani politician and controversial televangelist Aamir Liaquat Hussain will play slain Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani in an upcoming film, according to reports in the Pakistani media.

“A renowned director and actor, Khosa is all set to make a film revolving around Jammu and Kashmir and the film-maker has roped in Hussain for the lead role,” said the report.

According to report speaking on Samaa’s talk show Naya Din, the director said that he’s decided to do a film on the issues of Kashmir. He argued that the portrayal of Kashmir in Bollywood films gets international acclaim, however local films on Kashmir seldom make it internationally.

The report said that Khosa says that his film will not have any “commercial value”.

“The production shouldn’t be one which shows a Kashmiri fighter and shows him romancing and him singing songs and his lover prancing around him. I don’t want that, we’re going to make a clean, issue-based film based on the Kashmir cause,” Dawn quoted Khosa as having said.

The newspaper quoted Khosa as having said, “It will be shot in Kashmir, it will be named after a Kashmiri fighter. I’m confident that my good friends from the industry will step forward to be a part of this film.”

However, Aamir Liaquat spilled the beans.

“The film is on Burhan Wani (the Hizbul Mujahideen commander) and I will be playing him in the film. I don’t consider myself a hero but Burhan Wani was definitely a hero for the Kashmiri people,” Liaquat was quoted.
