No assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir for now: EC

NEW DELHI: Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora on Sunday said only Lok Sabha elections will be held for now in Jammu and Kashmir.

Arora said the decision about the state assembly elections will be taken later. He said schedule was only announced for Lok Sabha in the wake of recent violent events.

The Jammu and Kashmir political parties had batted for simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly polls.

Lok Sabha elections will begin on April 11 and will be held over seven phases followed by counting of votes on May 23, the Election Commission announced on Sunday.
