SRINAGAR: Director National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, Prof. Dr. Rakesh Sehgal on Friday said that terrorism has no boundaries, nationality, or religion and we have to jointly fight to tackle this global challenge.
Addressing the virtual ceremony to observe the Anti-Terrorism Day at NIT Srinagar, he said that terrorism is the global problem and we have to tackle this challenge jointly by making people aware of its consequences and its impacts on global peace ans prosperity.
He said terrorism has no boundaries, nationality, or religion. We have to jointly fight to tackle this global challenge. This day gives us message, to spread peace and harmony and we should make people aware about the terror and its consequences,” Prof. Sehgal said.
“If any country in the world is facing terrorism challenge, it impacts its growth, development and largely hits its economy. When there is no economy it leads to more poverty, unemployment and other challenges,” he said.
Director NIT Srinagar said in any case, terrorism leads to killing of innocent people, destruction and unending wars. It cannot be justified by any means and we should oppose all forms of terror activities and promote peace, prosperity in our country.
“The main objective behind this day is to highlight the miseries of people who suffered due to terrorism. On 21 May 1991, former Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated. The incident shocked the entire nation, he said.
Prof. Sehgal also said that this day reminds us about heinous consequences of terrorism and sacrifices of our brave hearts who laid their lives for our safety. It is time for India along with other countries to stand up and join hands together to fight this global menace,” he said.
On the occasion, Director NIT along with Registrar NIT Srinagar Prof. Kaiser Bukhari and other faculty members took anti-terrorism pledge to oppose the all forms of terrorism, violence uphold sovereignty, security, promote peace and social harmony in the country.
The pledge was read by Registrar NIT Srinagar Prof. Kaiser Bukhari while the Hindi translation of the same was read by Dr.Harveer Singh Pali, Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering Department.
During the ceremony, the staff and faculty members raised their hands to express their mutual commitment to uphold peace, harmony and stand against terrorism. The ceremony event was moderated and hosted by Deputy Registrar (Administration) Faisal Irshad Ganai.
