Christchurch: The death toll in terrorist attacks on two mosques in Christchurch has mounted to 49 with more seriously injured victims succumbing, reports said on Friday.

Earlier, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said forty people were killed and 20 more were seriously injured in terrorist attacks on two Christchurch mosques.

“It is clear that this can now only be described as a terrorist attack,” she said. “From what we know, it does appear to have been well planned.”

“Two explosive devices attached to suspect vehicles have now been found and they have been disarmed,” she added.

New Zealand’s police commissioner, Mike Bush, says the number of people killed has increased to 49 after one of the victims died in hospital, reported The Guardian.

He said a man charged with murder will appear in court tomorrow, said the report.
