SRINAGAR: Resentment is brewing among the aspiring candidates against the National Testing Agency (NTA) for designating their exams centres for upcoming NET exams outside J&K state.

The move has agitated the candidates who allege that their centres have been designated outside J&K state to create hurdles for them.

The NET exams are likely to be conducted on December 18 by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

From this year, the UGC established NTA as a premier, specialist, autonomous and self-sustained testing organization to conduct entrance examinations for admission, fellowship in higher educational institutions.

“The pathetic thing is that many students have their centres in Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab. It is discrimination with aspirants from Kashmir,” said Shakeel Ahmad, one of the aspirants.

The candidates said they have prioritized their exam centres in Baramulla and Srinagar district and had given the alternate option for their centre in Jammu and Kathua.

“But most of the students have their exam centres outside J&K state,” he said.

The candidates were asked to download their admit cards from NTA website from November 19.

The aggrieved students also said they it was not possible for them to afford air tickets worth Rs 10,000 to Rs 15000 to travel to other states and appear in exams.

The aspirants have appealed the Governor of J&K state, advisor Khurshid Ahmad Ganai and chief Secretary J&K to personally intervene in the matter so that their exam centres are set up within the state.
