Srinagar: After Srinagar Municipal Corporation’s workers on Friday in a viral video were seen confiscating a cart of a vendor for purported encroaching on a road in Srinagar, SMC Corporator Shaheena Bhat on Saturday said that there is a need to make people understand and not to be dealt with force.
Bhat said to reporters at Lal Chowk that the vendors need to understand that the encroaching on roads make it difficult for vehicles to move, but at the same time, “the SMC Commissioner cannot take away stuff from the vendors or other encroachers.” He instead could announce on the microphone or tell them verbally, she said.
“There is a need to make them (vendors) understand and need not be dealt with force,” said SMC Corporator Shaheena Bhat.
Replying to a reporter’s question, she said that if the SMC Commissioner has courage then he should help in accommodating the vendors at other places.
