JAMMU: Expressing concern over erratic supply and hike in the tariff of drinking water and power, the National Conference today blamed the administration on failing on all fronts, saying the people were finding themselves at the receiving end.

“We demand regulated supply of power and drinking water supply and waiver and amnesty on the tariff, keeping in view the ongoing pandemic situation and economic slump that has pushed the poor to the wall”, National Conference State Secretary Rattan Lal Gupta said at a meeting held at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan here this morning.

He cautioned the administration to desist from unprecedented power cuts and resorting to scarce drinking water supply during the ongoing summer months, especially the monsoon, saying this is not what the people deserved especially during these grim and hard times.

Gupta also referred to growing fuel prices on a daily basis and said this has resulted in cost escalation of essentials besides fare charges. There seems to be no respite in sight in the near future due to anti-people policies of the government at the Centre and poor implementation of various schemes by the administration here.

Gupta said the people had no craving for Ache Din anymore, as they were braving the brunt of dilapidated utility services, poor road network and developmental inertia looming large. If the administration has done anything remarkable, it is thumping its own backs by making tall and hollow claims, he said, adding that the governance has taken the rear seat.

The State Secretary said people of Jammu and Kashmir had been sold many dreams after degrading its status as Union Territory but the reality remains that they find themselves left in lurch. The unemployment is growing with educated unemployed seeing their future bleak due to various measures taken by the administration. The promise of fast track employment has been nothing but a huge lie which is staring starkly at the unemployed whose number is alarmingly increasing with each passing day, he added.

Prominent among those present in the meeting included Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Brij Mohan Sharma, Babu Rampaul and Satwant Kour Dogra.
