SRINAGAR: Nayeema Mehjoor has resigned as chairperson of Jammu and Kashmir State Commission for Women (SCW) following the imposition of governor’s rule in the state on Wednesday.

“I have resigned from the post of chairperson, jk state commission for women early morning. I am now a free woman… freedom at last….,” she said on Twitter.

With the imposition of governor’s rule, it becomes mandatory for the political appointees to resign from their posts.

The PDP-BJP coalition government, which collapsed yesterday after the latter withdrew from the alliance, had made dozens of such appointments during the past three years.
