Municipal elections: JK govt announces holiday in poll bound areas on voting days

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday announced a holiday in the areas on the day they go for polls in the upcoming municipal elections.

An order issued by the government today, read: “public holiday shall be observed within the limits of the respective municipal corporations/councils/committees on account of municipal elections -2018, on the day of polls…”

It said special cause leave shall be granted to the employees who have to go to other areas for exercise their right to franchise, for which they demonstrate proof of voting in return.

“The holiday on account of polls to the municipal elections 2018 shall be observed only in the areas where polling shall be held,” said the order.

The four-phased municipal elections are set to begin from October 8.
