SRINAAGR: Hurriyat (M) chairman and Kashmir’s chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house detention on Friday morning.

The detention comes ahead of a call by the Joint Resistance Leadership asking people to protest the custodial death of Awantipora school principal Rizwan Assad Pandith.

“On Friday, March 22nd, 2019, after Friday (Juma) prayers, people at all Masajid, Khanqahs and Imam Baras will raise their voices peacefully against this custodial killing by NIA and SOG and continuing policy of oppression,” said a statement issued by the JRL earlier this week.

Mirwaiz addresses the gathering at the Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta every Friday.
