Militant’s body exhumed after two months as DNA samples match with his parents

Bandipora: Parents of a slain Bandipora militant received his body, here today more than two months after he was killed in a gunfight with Security Forces in Warpora area of Sopore, reliable sources and eyewitnesses said.

The slain militant was buried at a graveyard in Qazipora area of Bandipora district in North Kashmir. Sources said that the body of Rameez was exhumed here on today and handed over to his family more than two months after he was killed in a gunfight with forces. Sources said that the family members of slain militant approached the district administration Baramulla for DNA matching of the dead militant two months back.

“The report confirmed that the DNA of the slain militant matched with that of his father. A DNA test of the slain militant matched with the family members and the body was handed over to the family today evening,” said a police officer. He added that DNA samples of the slain militant matched with those claiming to be his kin.

He said that the body of Rameez was exhumed here on Saturday, after more than two months, since he was buried in Rajwara area of Kupwara District. “The militant Rameez Ahmad Mir of Qazipora area was killed in a gunfight with armed forces in Warpora area of sopore on February 22 along with his associates,” the officer said.

Rameez’s father Ghulam Rasool confirmed that they have received body his slain son Police said that Rameez had joined militant ranks a few days ago before he was killed with other Jaish militants in Warpora area of Sopore.
