Srinagar: One unidentified militant was killed by security forces on Thursday afternoon in an encounter in South Kashmir Kulgam’s Chawalgam area.
The encounter started in Kulgam’s Chawalgam area after a cordon and search operation was carried out by a joint team of Police, CRPF and Army in the suspected area after receiving inputs about the presence of militants there.
The gunfight took place after the holed up militants fired upon the searching parties while they were zeroing in on the suspected place in the area of Chawalgam.
In the ensuing gunfight one unidentified militant was killed by security forces, said police after the start of the encounter in the afternoon. However, the operation was said to be going on in the area and till late Thursday evening there was confirmation from officials about any further casualties inflicted on either side engaged in the gunfight besides killing one unidentified militant.
However, the slain militant’s identification, killed in the ongoing gunfight, was not ascertained immediately after the encounter and the operation was underway in the area.
