NEW DELHI: The Ministry of External Affairs on Friday asserted that India has an independent foreign policy whose tenets also apply to defence acquisitions and supplies.

“India will always be guided by its national interests,” said spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs Anurag Srivastava while reacting to comments by the outgoing US Ambassador to India Kenneth Juster that India could face sanctions if it went ahead with the purchase of S-400 air defence systems from Russia.
