PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia will be part of an international effort to test new medications for the treatment of the Covid-19 coronavirus.

This will be undertaken through the nation’s participation in the Solidarity Trial announced by the World Health Organisation (WHO), recently.

This trial, which is being coordinated by WHO around the world would attempt to collect data and compare the safety and effectiveness of four treatment regimens – Remdesivir, Lopinavir/Ritonavir, Interferon beta, Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquine.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today that in line with this, the Health Ministry (MoH) will soon start clinical trials to study the safety and effectiveness of Remdesivir for the treatment of Covid-19 patients.

Nine MoH hospitals which are involved in the Solidarity Trial are ready to take in participants from among Covid-19 patients who fulfill the criteria set.

Malaysia’s participation in this trial is expected to aid in the search for life-saving drugs in the treatment of Covid-19.
