Srinagar: A militant affiliated with Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit was killed in a gunfight with security forces in the Charsoo area of Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday morning, police said.
Quoting a senior police officer, news agency GNS reported that an LeT militant was killed in the counter-insurgency operation in Charsoo.
As per the official sources, the slain militant has been identified as Owais Raja from Subhanpora Bijbehera. He had been missing for the last three months, said the report.
Earlier on a specific input generated by J&K Police, a joint team of police and security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area.
As the joint team intensified the searches at the suspected spot, the hiding militant opened fire, triggering a gunfight.
