LeT Commander Naveed Jatt among two militants killed in Budgam gunfight

SRINAGAR: Top Lashkar-e-Toiba commander Naveed Jatt was killed along with an associate in a gunfight with the government forces in Chattergam area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Wednesday.

A police spokesperson said Naveed Jatt alias Hanzallah affiliated with proscribed militant outfit LeT was killed in the gunfight that raged since early Wednesday.

Police had blamed Jatt for the assassination of senior journalist Shujaat Bukhari in June this year.

The gunfight had erupted in Kuthipora area of Chattergam soon after the government forces launched a search operation in the area.

Earlier, a top police official said that they had inputs about the presence of Jatt in the area.

Three soldiers were wounded in the gunfight.
