LeT Commander Killed in Anantnag Gunfight; Two soldiers injured in Kulgam

Srinagar: A top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in Anantnag on Saturday, Police said.

Inspector-General of Police Vijay Kumar said that LeT commander Nisar Ahmad Dar resident of Redwani Bala Kulgam has been killed in Sirhama Anantnag and was active since 06 may 2021.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Sirhama area of Anantnag following inputs about the presence of militants there, a police official said.

He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the hiding militants fired upon the security forces, who retaliated.

In the ensuing exchange of firing, one local militant of the LeT outfit was killed, the official said.

While another gunfight broke out in Kulgam district of South Kashmir in which two soldiers however were injured.

The two soldiers injured in gunfight were identified as Rohit Yadav and Ankesh Kumar 

Both have received splinter injuries in their thighs and have been shifted to hospital for treatment, official said.

Reports further said that militants have apparently managed to flee after a brief gunfight with security forces.
