Lakhimpur Kheri violence: No netas at bhog ceremony, says BKU

New Delhi: People from other states have started arriving at Lakhimpur Kheri for the “antim ardas” of five persons, including four farmers, killed in the October 3 violence.

BKU (Tikait) leader Balkar Singh said no politician would be allowed to share the stage with farm leaders. A gathering of about 1.5 lakh people from across the country is expected with local farm groups preparing to host them across six acres of land.

Top leaders of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha, including Rakesh Tikait, Yogendra Yadav, Darshan Pal, Balbir Singh Rajewal, Joginder Singh Ugrahan and Baldev Singh Sirsa, will address the gathering and spell the future course of action. “We expect a gathering of over a lakh at the bhog on Tuesday,”

Gurmeet Singh Randhawa of Kheri Sikh Sangathan, one of the organisers, told The Tribune. The memorial is being held for farmers Daljit Singh, Gurvinder Singh, Nachhatar Singh and Lovpreet Singh and journalist Raman Kashyap.

The UP Police have cancelled leave of all personnel till October 18 and beefed up security in the area to prevent any untoward incident. The state administration remained in touch with the organisers, who have promised to follow pre-decided routes for traffic and movement of people.
