KU organises cycle yatra as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations

Srinagar: Kashmir University’s Directorate of Physical Education and Sports (DPES) on Saturday organised a cycle yatra as part of varsity’s ongoing initiatives to celebrate ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Talat Ahmad flagged-off the yatra which saw an overwhelming participation of students from the university as well as its affiliated colleges in Kashmir.Addressing the participants on the occasion, Prof Talat said the Covid19 pandemic, which has caused a lot of disruption and disturbance in people’s day-to-day lives, should draw us to focus more on holding such sports activities involving the student community.He said the university is creating a strong infrastructure base for different sports activities, both indoor and outdoor, to encourage more students to get actively involved in different types of sports endeavours.The VC was accompanied by Coordinator DPES Dr Nisar A Khan, Chief Proctor Prof Showket A Shah, Dean Students Welfare Prof Raies A Qadri and other officials from the Directorate.Earlier, Dr Khan gave an overview of different sports activities being organised by his Directorate, and also those in the offing, for the university and college students. He praised the efforts of his staff in ensuring active participation of students in the cycle yatra, which started from Rumi Gate and passed through the main campus. The student participants expressed their satisfaction at the successful completion of the cycle yatra. Dr Nadeem, Assistant Director DPES was also present on the occasion.
