J&K wins team Championship at National Ski & Snowboarding Championship Auli

AULI (UTTARAKHAND): Jammu and Kashmir, the winter games team from has won the overall championship in the National National Ski & Snowboarding Championship Auli, Uttarakhand.The team topped the championship by winning eight Gold, three Silver, and six Bronze medals.

The UT contingent comprising with fifty one sports persons – both male and female – took part in three days National Championship from February 7 to 9, 2022.

While sharing the details, Shabir Ahmad Wani Chief of delegation from J&K winter Games Association, said that Shoiab Rashid bagged two gold medals in Slalom and Giant Slalom in under-21 category.

He said in under-16 category, Faizan Ahmad Lone won two gold medals in Slalom, Giant Slalom. In under-18 boys category, Azhar Fayaz bagged bronze medal in Giant Slalom.

“In girls, under-21 category Haya Muzaffar bagged silver in Giant Slalom, while Mohammad Essa Anum won bronze, in under-16 boys category. Hadika won gold in under 14 girls category in Giant slalom while Maryam won silver in under 14 girls in Giant Slalom. In under 18, Ridha Altaf bagged bronze medal,” Wani said.

In Snowboarding, in boys junior category, Vikar Ahmad bagged gold, Mubashir Ahmad got bronze; in under-16 boys, Rooman-ul- Madina won gold while Syed Zain bagged bronze medals. In senior category, Mehraj-u- din won silver.

This is for the first time in the history of the UT that a team from J&K has won the overall national championship, as per the records.

While lauding the efforts of winter sports team, President Winter Games Association of J&K Abbas Wani who is accompanying Arif Khan to represent the India team in Beijing Olympics said that with this win it is anticipated that the UT will bring laurels to the country at national and international championships in future and also conveyed his good wishes and congratulated team J&K.

250 participants from 17 states including Uttarakhand, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir participated in the Championship which was organized in collaboration with Tourism Department, Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam, District Administration, ITBP, Skiing and Snowboard Association of Uttarakhand.
